On January 15,2026, at 7:00 PM, the Romanian Cultural Institute will host a concert at the Bucharest National Opera dedicated to National Culture Day, featuring the Bucharest Metropolitan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Jinga and internationally renowned artists: Stefan Pop, Ramona Zaharia, Raluca Stirbat, Damian Draghici, and Alexandra Tomescu.
On this occasion, the ICR Warsaw will offer the Polish public an event centered on one ot the most important editorial premieres in Poland: the volume The Carpathians: The Story of Some Mountains by Professor Maciej Janowski, published by the International Centre for Culture in Krakow as part of the prestigious Bibliotéka Europy Srodka / Central Europe Library series. Hie event, held on January 15 at the International Centre for Culture in Krakow, will feature the author in dialogue with Professor Jacek Purchla, founder and director of the Krakow Centre for 27 years.

Hie Romanian Cultural Institute celebrates National Culture Day in Romania and abroad with concerts, performances, readings, conferences, film screenings, exhibitions, and editorial events Dumitrescu (another Romanian child prodigy whose life tragically ended at 19 in the 1977 earthquake), and Nicolae Kirculescu, known primarily for light and film music.
Adela Liculescu will later perform at the Hallwyl Museum in Stockholm during the event organized by ICR Stockholm on January 19, in collaboration with the Embassy of Romania in Sweden.
On January 15, 2026, ICR Lisbon will open a graphic arts exhibition featuring works by Horaţiu Mălăele and present his volumes Poezii şi vorbe-n vânt and Tristeţea ploilor, published by Bookzone. The vernissage will be attended by the artist and curator Diana Silvia Stancu. Organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Romania in Portugal and Libro Studio Association, the exhibition will remain open until March 31, 2026. During the event, the honorary title Amicus Romaniae" will be awarded to Prof. Eduardo Duarte (University of Lisbon, Faculty of Fine Arts), Rute Reimăo (Cultural Advisor, Santa Maria Maior Municipality, Lisbon), and Col. (r) Francisco Faria Paulino (military historian). Established in 2009, this title honors Portuguese personalities in culture and the arts who support Romanian cultural values. Recipients will receive a print signed by artist Roland Pangrati.

ICR Madrid, in partnership with the Bucharest Municipality Museum and under the auspices of the Embassy of Romania in Spain, will present the photo-documentary exhibition 'Bucharest: Maps in Motion", curated by historians Adrian Majuru and Dan Pirvulescu, showcasing archival and contemporary photographs. The vernissage will be held on January 13,2026, at Sala Maruja Mallo, Retiro District, Madrid, open until February 5, 2026. Other events include bilingual poetry readings, photographic exhibitions of UNESCO World Heritage sites, and lectures on Romanian avantgarde literature, architecture, and modern art.
The ICR Brussels will host four screenings of The Yellow Tie, directed by Serge Celebidachi, on January 15, followed by Q&A sessions with the director and screenwriter James Olivier.
ICR Budapest and Szeged mark National Culture Day with the interdisciplinary project 'EFEMER_NON EFEMER: Between Literature and Theatre", including poetry recitals and musical interludes, featuring Romanian and Hungarian authors such as Ana Blandiana, Mircea Cártárescu, Nichita Stánescu, and Markó Béla.
